West Chiltington Parish Council

LOCAL ORGANISATIONS & INFORMATION

The Parish Council welcomes you to our Village and hopes you will enjoy a long and happy stay in this pleasant and friendly place. We have won the Best Kept Village competition several times and hope that you will help us to maintain our record.

We have compiled the following information from numerous sources, and we have done our best to ensure that it is accurate and up to date. We cannot be held responsible for any mistakes which may have crept in, and we should be most grateful if you would advise the Parish Clerk in writing (address below) of any amendments necessary.

All telephone numbers have the 01798 STD code unless otherwise indicated.

The Parish Council meets on the second Tuesday of every other month, starting in January, at 7.30 pm, usually in the Parish Office, Church Street. Members of the public are welcome to attend. Contact the Parish Clerk, Tony Thomas, 817301, email wcpcclerk@aol.com

Village History A history of the Village in the 20th century, “Voices of the Village”, was published to mark the new millennium. Copies are available, price £12.50, from the Parish Clerk and from local shops.

The Parish Magazine is published monthly. It includes Church matters, Village news and notes of forthcoming events. Available in Church and from both Post Offices. For regular delivery contact Peter and June Knowles, 812907.

Notice Boards There are Parish Council notice boards in Haglands Lane, opposite “Cherilyn”; in East Street on the wall of the Post Office Stores; and on the side of the former farm shop at “Coombers”, in the lay by close to the Broadford Bridge crossroads. Lists of Parish Councillors, details of planning applications, forthcoming meetings and other public notices are displayed.

There are public notice boards next to the Parish Council board in Haglands Lane and opposite the Queens Head in The Hollows. These are for the use of local community, sports, and educational organisations to publicise their activities and not for commercial or business advertising.

The Village Museum is in Church Street just beyond the churchyard wall. The key can be obtained from Mary Eames, 9 Pond Rise, or from Judy Ovenden at Brookside Lodge, Church Street.  There is no admission charge but visitors are invited to make a donation towards upkeep.
